Psychological healing – become a hypnotherapist
You’ve probably witnessed a hypnotist perform on stage before – their famous routine of making a member of the audience believe they are a chicken is a classic. And while it’s hugely entertaining, hypnosis, or a rather hypnotherapy can also have a much more important and beneficial impact on someone’s life.
As a hypnotherapist, you will work with people with a range of conditions from depression and insomnia to eating disorders. It works by drawing clients into a state of intense relaxation before making gentle and subtle suggestions to their subconscious mind. It will often take a couple of sessions before a client sees any benefits but gradually over time they will begin to think differently and alter their perception. It can be extremely rewarding to see your efforts having a positive impact on another person’s life.
Hypnotherapy is curious mix of psychology, relaxation and counselling and you with have to use all three skills in order to understand a client’s background and why they have their disorder.
Train to be a hypnotist
Like any other professional field of study, it’s important to continually develop your skills and keep your knowledge up-to-date as the latest research becomes available. Most hypnotists are self-employed and as such, their salary will depend on how well they can market their services and find clients. The hourly rate can ranges from $60 (£40) to $180 (£120) depending on your experience. The more expertise you have, and the more referrals you get from your clients, the easier it will be to raise your fees.
Your skill set
Hypnotherapy is a good career choice for someone who is empathetic to a person’s needs; it’s a caring profession where compassion and patience are needed. You must be a person who can quickly build rapport and warmth with a client. Some clients will have personally challenging problems and phobias that cause them a great deal of stress or embarrassment. As a hypnotherapist you will need to relax the client before you can try to heal their subconscious mind.
If you consider yourself a warm, caring and gentle person who enjoys the challenge of healing the mind without use of medications and intrusive therapies, then becoming a hypnotherapist could be a rewarding and interesting career for you.
